Back Exercises For Back Pain

If you have ever experienced back pain before, you probably want to prevent it from ever occurring again. Back pain is extremely common in our society, one reason is because of our increasingly sedentary lives. Our spines are made to move, not to sit in front of a computer for eight hours and then in front of the TV for another two hours. It only makes sense that moving our backs can help with the pain, so what kind of exercises are best?

Core exercises are extremely important in maintaining muscle tone for muscles that support the back. So lots of sit-ups right? WRONG. Sit ups can put a lot of force on the low back while only strengthening the rectus abdominis, the muscles in the very front of the belly. It is important to strengthen all the muscles of the core in order to provide stability to the back. Examples of core strengthening with minimal pressure on the back include bird-dogs, planks, and side planks. If you are not familiar with these, please take a look at the videos below.
