Carpal Tunnel, Hand Tingling?

Hand Tingling 101

Hand tingling, numbness, or a "pins and needles" type feeling is a common complaint. It is usually caused by a lack of blood flow to the nerves that go to the hand. When this happens, the nerve conveys less sensation (numbness) or just a different sensation than normal (tingling or pins and needles).

So what causes the changes in blood flow and nerve sensation? Well, it is most likely caused from nerve pressure - anywhere from the neck to the shoulder to the elbow, wrist, or hand. If this pressure is coming from the wrist and hand it could be due to a condition called carpal tunnel syndrome.

Wherever the pressure is coming from, it needs to be relieved to allow the nerve to function correctly. This is where chiropractic care comes in. A chiropractic evaluation will help to determine where the pressure is and what is causing it. Chiropractic treatment can then begin to relieve the pressure by working on the muscles and joints, and changing the tension in the surrounding tissues and even the nerve itself.
