Probiotics The Good Bacteria

Our intestines are lined with tons and tons of bacteria. We usually think of bacteria being bad little bugs that make us sick. However, the bacteria in our intestinal tract helps to keep us healthy in many ways.

A new, important finding in a 2017 study shows that antibiotics can wipe out some of the good bacteria in the intestines. This is where probiotics come in to play. They found that taking a probiotic shortly after antibiotics can reduce the risk of diarrhea by 70%. This shows that the repopulation of the intestines with “good bacteria” in probiotics is really important after antibiotic therapy.

Other benefits of taking probiotics daily that have been shown in research include improving IBS symptoms, colic in infants, reducing risk of colds in adults, and possibly even improving anxiety and depression.
