Take a break!
If you have a desk job and are sitting for most of the day it’s important to get up and move around at least every 20 minutes. This can help save your back from constant pressure which can lead to back pain. Back pain is one of the most costly health conditions in the U.S. and a lot of it is caused by prolonged sitting.
Sitting for long periods is not only bad for your back, but it may actually reduce your life span! A 2012 study showed that if you sit for more than 3 hours per day your life expectancy is approximately 2 years less than someone who sits less than 3 hours per day. Sitting for a long time can be harmful to your back, your heart, and your metabolism. So if you have a desk job, take a break. You may even want to set a timer to go off every 20 minutes to make sure you remember to get up out of your chair.
