What to do about forward head posture

Forward head posture is easy to detect, and many of us have this posture. When you look at a person from the side you should be able to draw a straight vertical line from his/her ear to the tip of his/her shoulder. For each inch the head is forward from the shoulder, it puts 10 pounds of extra pressure on your neck and the muscles supporting the head and neck.

This type of posture is linked to a whole host of problems like early arthritis, neck pain, headaches, and lower lung capacity. Easy exercises to start correcting this problem include band workouts like rowing to increase your upper back strength. Stretching your chest muscles can also help reverse this posture. Lastly, holding your chin in retraction (giving yourself a double chin) can strengthen the muscles in the front of your neck.
